MINIS OVER THE MOUNTAINS 2024

Do you want to go on an amazing road trip in your Classic Mini or your MINI? Then why not join our “Minis over the Mountains” tour: Mount Ainslie, Mt Kosciusko, Mt Panorama between 7-12th April 2024.

The trip is anticipated to catch the autumn colours as we travel over the mountains and through country NSW. The route will be calculated to limit each days travel to around 250km or 3 hours driving with the round trip from Sydney of approx. 1500km. Overnight stops are in Canberra, Jindabyne, Wagga Wagga, Cowra and Bathurst via Mt Kosciusko through Khancoban and Tumbarumba. During the day we will take in the views and tourist sites including Mt Ainsley, Old Parliament House, Canberra Arboretum, Temora Aircraft Museum, Cowra Japanese gardens, Mt Panorama, Bathurst and more.

Estimated cost for our adventure for two people with 5 night’s accommodation, fuel and meals is approx. $1500.

In early October we booked accommodation at each of the planned motels and will need to lock these rooms in with participants by late November 2023.

Many years ago, while I was in paid employment, I was required to drive over the Snowy Mountains from Albury to Cooma and since then I have always had an idea to take my Classic Mini for a drive over Mt Kosciusko National Park. Fast forward to more recently and I thought why not take a group of Classic Minis over the Mountains and do it in Autumn when the trees are changing to shades of plum, lemon and bright reds and the weather is mild, the air crisp and the sky blue. Yes, this turned out to be the case for our recent trip.

In late April 2023 Lynne and I conducted a reconnaissance tour in our 2018 Mini Cooper S from Sunday 23rd April to Friday 28th April. I worked out a route to limit the driving per day to around 250km or 3hours with the total distance for the round trip from Sydney of approx. 1500km. There were overnight stops in Queanbeyan (although we will be changing this to Canberra), Jindabyne, Wagga Wagga, Cowra and Bathurst travelling over Mt Kosciusko then via Tooma Road through Khancoban and Tumbarumba.

During the day we planned for regular stops along the way to take in the views or for tourist sites, including Old Parliament House, Canberra Arboretum, Cowra Japanese gardens, Temora Aircraft Museum, Mt Panorama, Bathurst.

We anticipate the Minis over the Mountains tour: Mount Ainslie, Mt Kosciusko, Mt Panorama to be in early April 2024 and avoid Easter and the school holidays.
