What is an IMM

The International Mini Meet is a gathering of Mini owners and enthusiasts which started in Germany in 1978 as a small 3 day camp event. The Meet is organised by a collection of Mini clubs and its goal is to bring together Mini enthusiasts from around the world.

Every year the event takes place in a different country, usually in Europe and around the Whitsun weekend. The club’s rules provide also that every 5 years since 1989 (counting from 1959), the event be celebrated in England, the birthplace of the Mini car. These gatherings usually take place in August with the last English event held at Bristol in 2019 but due to Covid this 5 year rule has been interrupted.

The event caters to the interests of Mini and MINI owners and enthusiasts, as well as those looking to purchase a car or those must have Mini parts. Participants can display their Mini in Show n Shine, including Concourse, treasure hunts, slalom races, and other Mini-themed events. Basically, an IMM is all about checking out the thousands of amazing Minis on display, wandering amongst the many Mini trade stands looking for that special Mini part, socialising, meeting lots of other Mini enthusiasts, relaxing and having fun.

Most people camp at an IMM, which our Club did in 2019 at Birmingham, but since then we have stayed in nearby hotels.

The Meet starts on a Thursday afternoon when entrants arrive to pick up their tickets, merchandise bags and setup their tents. An official welcome gathering occurs that evening, which includes a presentation of all participating clubs.

On Saturday evening there is usually a themed party and the numerous Mini Clubs’ presidents’ meet. During this meeting, individual clubs make a presentation in hopes of winning the right to host a future event.

On Sunday, a form of cavalcade, featuring various Minis, is held. On Sunday evening, the event is closed by a formal handover of “the event key” to the club organizing it the following year.
